IFS vs. Oracle | The NEC project team celebrated the go-live of one of the largest partner implementations of IFS Applications.
On my last visit to NEC in Japan, I had the privilege of going to a party that I will remember for a very long time. Stefan Gustafsson MD for IFS Japan had invited the NEC project team to celebrate the go-live of the NEC Computertechno project, which is one of IFS’ largest partner implementations of IFS Applications. I knew this was a very prestigious project, but I hadn’t met any of the people behind it.
The location was Luke Tower in the center of Tokyo. From here you have a fantastic view of the whole city. Looking south you can see the Rainbow Bridge that takes you to Daiba; looking north you see the new landmark in Tokyo, the Skytree (the world’s tallest broadcasting tower). And of course, from this beautiful 360 view of Tokyo, there are skyscrapers as far as the eye can see.
The NEC Computertechno Project
Together with 20 consultants and project managers from NEC and about 5 colleagues from IFS, we had some great food and drinks together. My Japanese friends and I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, talking about project memories, family stories and upcoming projects around the world.
At this get-together in Tokyo, Mr. Saga, the project manager at NEC and representing the customer, held the most fantastic speech. With lots of passion, he shared all the details with us, from the customer’s decision to replace their existing Oracle solution with IFS Applications up to the present. The customer has been successfully live for three months. With the overall responsibility for implementing business-critical software at one of the most prestigious computer manufacturing plants in the world, of course, he and decision makers at all levels have been nervous. There was no room for any mistakes. Period. I could really feel his pride as he thanked the whole project crew for delivering this project on time and on. After the speech, Stefan Gustafsson (above picture) was presented with a glass statue with a watch to symbolize successfully going live on time with one of the largest partner implementation projects involving IFS Applications.
Statistics
After completing the implementation of IFS Applications to replace their previous system from Oracle, NEC can present the following statistics.
- The IFS project was completed in one-third of the time compared with the previous Oracle implementation
- It cost one-fifth of the previous implementation
- System performance doubled
