The construction industry is braced for a digital revolution. Leading industry player Balfour Beatty has predicted that during the next 30 years, the industry will become increasingly focused on innovation as both contractors and customers become less risk-averse. It also predicts the shape and offer of the infrastructure industry will change significantly, with new business models, products and services.
Construction organizations need partners with the right software skills and a focus on future technology, and who will work with them to ensure their construction business is still driving forward by 2050.
Industry expertise – and recognition
So I’m delighted that IFS has just been named among the “10 Best Construction Tech Solution Providers 2018” by the business reviewer Insight Success. IFS has been selected because of its role in modernizing the construction world through prominent software solutions.
IFS has always been at the forefront of change in the construction industry, providing the integrated business software solutions needed to manage both the build and maintenance phase of a build, operations and maintenance phase of an asset. Across the engineering, construction and infrastructure sectors, IFS solutions are being used on assets from infrastructure and buildings, to energy, utilities, mining and plants. In Q4 2017, IFS won Project Lifecycle Management Software of the Year at the Construction Computing Awards for the third year in a row. The awards are run by Construction Computing magazine, a publication read by industry professionals throughout the UK.
I recently spoke to Insight Success to explain the key role IFS plays in improving the performance of the construction industry, and how it enables companies to take advantage of new-age technology.
Digitization – the name of the game for Multiplex
The IFS client base speaks for itself. Take Multiplex, one of the world’s leading construction companies. With over 5,000 employees and US $4 billion in revenue, it has completed around 1,000 large-scale projects over the last 50 years—including commercial, sports and healthcare—in Europe, Canada, Australia, the Middle East and India.
After a review of its information technology, Multiplex realized its current systems were holding the company back. Multiple systems with limited functionality had been implemented separately in different regions. Processes were inconsistent, and Microsoft® Excel™ spreadsheets were often used to fill functional gaps.
To overcome this challenge, Multiplex chose IFS as its software supplier. Since selecting IFS, Multiplex has increased operational agility, now has access to faster, more accurate reporting and has streamlined its processes across all locations.
Looking forward… and up!
The construction industry must keep looking into the future to make sure it takes advantage of all the relevant disruptive technologies that relate to its market. IFS Labs, IFS’s in-house think tank, is constantly looking for ways to explore the applications of new technology for the construction industry—and is already working on the benefits of drone use and IoT for its solutions offerings.
As construction projects across the globe still depend on accurate site inspections and surveys, drones are starting to offer a more efficient method of checking the progress of a build. New drone technology means enhanced ability to investigate inaccessible areas where it may be unsafe for humans to reach, then collect information and feed it back into the company’s enterprise software.
The internet of things (IoT) is another area having a huge impact on the construction industry, where installed assets and machinery can be monitored over the course of the construction process and beyond, helping keep builds safe, efficient and operational well after completion.
IFS will continue to grow alongside an increasingly digitalized construction industry. But don’t wait until it’s too late—find out how award-winning enterprise software can revolutionize your construction processes today by visiting https://www.ifsworld.com/corp/industries/engineering-construction-infrastructure/
